6 Skincare Tips For Dryer Weather

6 Skincare Tips For Dryer Weather

As the holidays approach and we move towards the frostier, dryer months, keeping a hydrated, smooth complexion gets trickier. You might feel your skin feeling tighter, more dehydrated, and even worse, get red and itchy easily. For our babes who love a good tan, colder weather also means you'll have to miss out on that glow for a while. Here are our top pointers on how to edit your skincare routine for the winter!

1. Use skincare with hyaluronic acid

The ultra-hydrating molecule, hyaluronic acid is a great ingredient to have all year round. But it’s a crucial part of a winter skincare routine when the air is much drier. Holding up to 1000 times its weight in water, hyaluronic acid attracts and binds moisture in the skin to defeat seasonal dryness. It also helps plump up fine lines and wrinkles for soft, youthful-looking skin

Find this ingredient in our Tasmanian Spring Water Splash Serum and Hydration Boost Cream – alongside other smoothing and skin barrier-boosting aquatic ingredients.

2. Use a hydrating mask at least once a week

Once the temperature drops, your hydrating routine should step up a notch (or three). Thankfully, one of the easiest ways to boost those moisture levels is also one of the most enjoyable. Time to slather on a cooling hydrating mask!

For a major moisture surge, use the Intense Hydrating Mask, a thick gel mask with smooth application and that feels refreshing on the skin. With natural minerals, Pentavitin and vegan squalene, its formula delivers deep, continuous hydration while repairing the skin barrier.

Intense Hydrating Mask spreads like butter and is cooling to the skin.

Dry weather can also cause textured skin – dehydration means a compromised skin barrier, which leads to sensitivity and itching. And while you're scratching, your skin's getting uneven and patchy in terms of texture and tone. Use a Vitamin C-rich mask to counter this. Super Bounce Mask contains kakadu plum (ie. the world's richest source of Vitamin C) and a 5-type hyaluronic acid complex to plump out your complexion.

Use your mask once or twice a week (thrice if your skin’s super-thirsty) after exfoliating with the Flash Perfection Exfoliator, an essential step in resurfacing your complexion with slough away dead, rough skin.

3. Protect skin overnight with night cream

Not using a night cream yet? Here’s why you need one – especially in cold weather. Thicker and more moisturising than your average day cream, a night cream is your PM weapon against dry winter skin. With nourishing ingredients, it supports the moisture barrier overnight to reduce transepidermal water loss – helping to prevent tight, uncomfortable skin upon waking.

Choose a night cream formulated with soothing and restorative actives, like our Renewing Night Cream. With glacial glycoproteins, vegan squalane and three types of hyaluronic acid, this super-charged moisturiser supports overnight regeneration and restores skin to supple, hydrated good health.

Use a night cream as the cherry🍒 on top of a cosy winter night routine.

4. Switch to a moisturising cleanser

Skin is often more sensitive in winter, so take care to avoid harsh, stripping cleansers that will exacerbate redness and dryness. Opt for a gentle face wash with hydrating ingredients – as well as those that address your specific skin concerns.

Congestion doesn’t disappear when it’s cold, and oily skin won’t suddenly lose its shine. To purge those pores look out for ingredients like Pink Clay – found in our Deep Pore Cleanser, alongside nourishing macadamia oil.

To combat excess oil and unwanted breakouts, reach for a face wash with BHA. Such as? Our Clearing Cleanser which is formulated with exfoliating salicylic acid, prebiotics and soothing Old Man Weed.

5. Try out a self-tanner!

Self-tanning isn’t just for summer, and there really is nothing like a (faux) glow to brighten up a gloomy day. Just make sure you choose a high-quality, hydrating formula since some tanners will exacerbate dryness.

For the body, try a goof-proof tinted foam, like Coco & Eve’s Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam which is formulated with nourishing coconut and 100% natural DHA for a natural, orange-free glow.

Unlikely to remove your burrito-like layers until spring rolls around? Try tanning just your face, neck and hands with tanning drops for a subtle, buildable glow. With hydrating hyaluronic acid, Coco & Eve’s Bronzing Face Drops can be mixed into the Intense Glow Moisturiser for plump, radiant and glowing winter skin.

6. Use Vitamin C serum for a natural glow

Even without the bronzer, you can still have glowing skin in fall and winter. The secret is keeping up the Vitamin C (one of our must-have ingredients!).

Em's glowing skin is also protected from sun damage and premature aging.

A potent antioxidant, Vitamin C defends against free radical damage from UV radiation and pollution – helping protect against sun damage and premature ageing. And the most effective way to apply it topically is in an easily absorbed, concentrated serum. Like our Dreamy Glow Drops

This super-potent serum will transform even the dullest complexion. Hydrate and brighten your skin while boosting collagen production for enviable smoothness.
